Gora, Hakone ～ Located on Tokaido which is one of the 5 major highways of Edo period, Hakone is the western gateway to Edo
Shukuba-machi (post town) culture thrived in Hakone, which was a sekisho (checking point) blessed with an abundance of hot springs
Gora Hot Springs is one of the famous 17 Hot Springs of Hakone
Gora is located away from the hustle and bustle of Hakone Yumoto. Embraced in mother nature and blessed with abundance of high temperature hot springs rich in healing qualities, Gora was developed as a luxury resort with villas during the latter half of Meiji era. Since then, it has attracted many cultural figures, financiers, and foreigners.
Mother nature and hot spring
Gora, Hakone represents the hot spring resort culture of modern Japan, and is a symbol of mother nature and hot springs.
On the quiet heights of the Gora mountains, Gen stands quietly among the sounds of chirping birds and wind blowing through the trees, overlooking the Gairinzan mountain with its slope decorated with the character “大 dai.”
Due to its natural diversity, Gora offers a wide variety of hot springs in a single area including acidic springs, sulfate springs, sulfur springs, chloride springs, and hydrogen carbonate springs, making it one of the top hot spring resorts in Hakone.
